Lessons
A thematic teaching approach is continued in Years 1 and 2, with lessons linked to the topic of the term. Lessons are taught in discrete subjects.
French
French lessons continue in Year 1 and 2, with a half hour lesson every week.
ICT
Children in both years enjoy working with the interactive white boards in their classrooms. Keyboard and ICT skills are more formally developed in Year 1, while Year 2 has a designated ICT lesson per week, in one of the Prep School’s well equipped ICT rooms. Children independently produce Powerpoint presentations by the end of the Year 2, and are introduced to a variety of software programs to support the curriculum.
Sport
All children in Years 1 and 2 have three sports lessons a week lead by specialist sports staff, working in the Motcombe Park Sport Centre and Gymnasium. Lessons cover swimming, gymnastics and ball skills and the children enjoy a few friendly fixtures against other local schools.
