A Day in the Life of a Port Regis Nursery Child

With so many activities, no one day is the same, however every morning begins at 8.30am with a warm welcome from Nursery staff and a range of hands-on tasks to develop gross and fine motor skills, as well as an opportunity to socialise with other Nursery friends in our purpose built Nursery with role play area.
A day at the Port regis Pre Prep Nursery.
The register is taken, followed by a circle time where the forthcoming day’s events are explained. This is the chance for treasures to be shown and shared, and time always given to the inevitable discussion which follows.

It may then be into our muck and magic garden, head for the Olympic style gymnasium, divide into groups for number, letters and sounds work or French with the highly experienced and qualified staff or even enjoy the delights of cookery. With so much activity, a mid-morning snack is well deserved. Water, milk or diluted fruit juices are on offer, along with fresh fruit and a healthy option snack. It’s then back to activities with the possibility of free play outside in the child-orientated play area.

The morning activities culminate in a story, and those children who are only attending the morning are collected at noon. Children joining the afternoon session arrive just prior to this, listen to the story and then all children prepare for lunch.

A healthy lunch (prepared by our Prep School kitchen), is served to all Nursery and Pre-Prep children by a member of staff, who sits with the children, on tables of seven, ensuring all children are comfortable and good table manners ensue. Lunch consists of a chef’s special, vegetarian option and salad, followed by pudding and/or fruit and all produce is locally sourced as far as possible.

After a small rest on the beanbags, it is back to activities, which may include music and movement, forest school, ball skills, swimming, gardening or practical activities linked to the topic under focus. A going home story completes the day, with children ready for collection at 3.30pm.

Nursery children have the option to attend our After School Club, running from 3.30pm – 6pm. Children in the After School Club enjoy a light snack and refreshment, followed by a plethora of further activities, including arts and crafts, forest school, cookery and free play. After a fun packed day it’s time for bed and a good night’s sleep!
